Kenya, 2012
In 2012, I had the privilege of travelling to Kenya and living in a community SE of Nairobi. I taught in several of the schools and had the opportunity to work with local educators and practice instructional strategies with their students. My own children and husband joined me and our children experienced first hand living and schooling in rural Kenya. This was the experience of a lifetime!
As part of my student teaching program I was required to provide in-service instruction to my Kenyan co-workers. This is an overview of the lesson and strategy I taught.
Students writing short sentences using new reading words.
Students trying out white boards and dry erase markers while practicing CvC words.
Me teaching math at the school.
Student demonstrating understanding of “missing addend”.
